Skills for Better Jobs Project Launching.

The Ministry of Commerce organized the Third Working Breakfast with business associations in Cambodia, presided Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister Commerce, with the representative from other business associations who were presence at the meeting.

The meeting was held to follow up the progress works from previous meeting and provide update from the ministry in improving the trade and business environment in Cambodia. Furthermore, the ministry also offered the chance to the business association to address their challenges in doing business and suggested the recommendation as the ministry tried to explore effective strategies for promoting environmentally sustainable and business-friendly practices in Cambodia.

The Royal Government of Cambodia are developing the new policy aimed to promote trade and support private sector, as the core driver of the economic growth, by reducing time and cost for business registration and other services as the ministry aims to increase the efficiency of its public services and contribute to the development of a business environment in Cambodia to attract more investment and create more job for Cambodian people.

For the automotive sector, the CAIF’s Executive Director attended the meeting and follow up the progress of the exclusive right and the new car definition as the current conditions are affecting the authorized distributors and allowing the parallel importers be able to import new vehicles for sales. Furthermore, the other issues such as free-flow of Chineses-made vehicles without restriction and online sales without registration are causing more troubles to the authorized distributors as well as the automotive assembling companies with low-cost vehicles from China and unfair treatment of unauthorized distributors.

Her Excellency Minister responded that the ministry are working on the issues raised by the CAIF and will follow up the proposal of exclusive right and new car definition to the Economic and Finance Policy Committee; and will check and review on the international rules and agreement between Cambodia and China to ensure that the measure can be set up to restrict the parallel importer from obtaining C.O (Form E) and to restrict online sales without registration at the ministry.
